Spoiler Warning - Post may contain spoilers
I’m not going to say a huge amount about this episode except it did the things that the better episodes of the new Doctor Who do:

  1. Foreshadowing and not just springing an ending that seems almost tacked on
  2. Pace
  3. Misdirection
  4. Interesting setting
  5. Good story
  6. Character development

It also had a huge advantage in that it had an excellent guest star who could carry the part he was given. Captain Jack’s return got the media coverage and not the appearance of a character from the Doctor’s past. Too often they seem obliged to tell us before hand that an episode will feature the Dalek or the Cybermen. Maybe that gets higher ratings but it takes the punch out of the story. It does write off a lot of my theory about a source for more Time Lords although not completely…

I think my response was something like...

"The cunning wotsist..."

"Go on say it..."

"Say it you know you want to..."

"Casting him in that part is inspired..."

"Yeh he said it."

"Bet he regenerates."

and a few minutes later...

"Oh look he's regenerated"

A big cheer went up in our house at the "I am..." scene just before the end.
