To make the Bifurcated Lava Flow in Vue, I used an ecosystem controlled by a texture, and then converted the instances into a metablob.

To make this I first looked at some maps of Bifurcated flows which I found by doing a Google search. I then drew a simple flow.

I made a volcano by creating a mountain terrain and then applying the volcano filter to it. I then applied the picture I’d drawn to the terrain as a texture and used it to control the distribution of objects in an EcoSystem made up of small cubes.

Next I used a Python script, ecotoobject.py, to place cubes where there were instances in the EcoSystem. Then I textured the terrain that had the EcoSystem on in with a rock texture, destroying the instances at the same time. I selected all the cubes I had made with ecotoobject.py and made them into a metablob. I baked that to a mesh to speed up rendering and reduce memory usage using the highest quality setting for the bake operation. Finally I applied the magma texture that comes with Vue and rendered the image.
