Turbulence can have a big impact of a Vue particle system. This page includes some simple experiments to explore the impact of the turbulence setting on a particle system.
Turbulence Experiment 1
For the first experiment I’ve created a simple particle system emitting a stream of black spheres vertically. The amount of Turbulence set in the particle motion panel for each emitter is varied from an inital value of 0 to a final value of 1.6 with an increase of 0.2 each time. The renders are of the system at frame 1000 so that the system is fully developed.
And finally in all its mind numbing glory here is an animation of the Turbulence 1.6 system for 40s. No human really needs to watch the whole thing…
Turbulence Experiment 2
For the second experiment I’ve created a simple particle system emitting black spheres with no initial velocity or gravity effect. The amount of Turbulence set in the particle motion panel for each emitter is varied from an inital value of 0 to a final value of 1.0 with an increase of 0.2 each time. The renders are of the system at frame 200 before the system has fully developed.
This video of the 0.8 turbulence system shows the most interesting effect of turbulence that can’t be seen from the static pictures – the particles aren’t moving in straight lines but are wandering.
