How I Write

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

I’ve tried various methods of writing fiction. From the obscure snowflake method to the well known (and probably overdone) heroes journey. I was reading a post on John Rogers Kung Fu Monkey blog Writing: The Knuckleball and it made me think about the method I come back to time and again that grew out of […]

Heavy Fog in Virtual Venice

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

Just playing with a heavy fog atmosphere in Vue 6 Infinite. The water is a flat plain with a slightly tweaked dark water material added and the bump map turned into a displacement map. The model is the Bridge of Sighs from Cornucopia 3d.

Vue Python Mass File Conversion Script 0.2

Monday, November 27th, 2006

A fix for some changes I made to clean up version 0.1 of the script for release that as an unfortunate side effect broke it! For more details and to download version two see my web site: Mass Convert Vue Python Script

One Frame Forward Two Frames Back

Importing sequences of 3d objects is proving to be something of a challenge. First the sequences of objects themselves are somewhat like small children that don’t like to play nicely with each other. The technique that looked like it had a real chance of running has revealed some interesting difficulties. Hopefully I’ll find a way […]

One for future social historians

Sunday, November 26th, 2006

Sometimes it’s the little things in life that make me think why? Today I needed a new kitchen timer. I didn’t want anything fancy. I didn’t want to spend a lot of money. I went round several shops in my search while doing other shopping. What I discovered on this micro Odyssey is that there […]

It's Alive!

Saturday, November 25th, 2006

Well animated at least. After trying a variety of methods to achieve animation in Vue python scripts I think I may well have found a way to achieve a satisfactory result for imported files. Now I need to refine the script to cope with all the nasty things I can think of that people will […]

EcoSystem to CSV / CSV to EcoSystem

Friday, November 24th, 2006

EcoSystem to CSV / CSV to EcoSystem, the last of the Vue Python scripts on the impworks site, have now been cleared as working and so I’ve added a page for it and updated the zip file. That frees me up to concentrate on new work. First on the list will be the revamped object […]

Characters on the Couch

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006

I really need to come up with something else to blog about on Wednesday’s. Honest I will. For next week. Really. Until then though I’ve put up a PDF of the complete Characters on the Couch on the all new impworks On Writing page.

A bit of this. A bit of that.

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006

After Sunday being a washout tonight I’ve got a lot done. A bit of writing. Figured out why the hero in my noir had apparantly killed a defenceless man in cold blood. Playing with clouds and godrays in vue 6. Watched Heston Blumenthal – In Search of Perfection on BBC 2 which was as mad […]

Vue Python Mass File Conversion Script

Monday, November 20th, 2006

A new python script for vue that loads all the 3d files of a specified format from a directory and saves them in another format into a specified directory. Uses Vue to do the conversion (I’ve tested it in vue 6 pre release). It can convert between obj, 3ds, lwo, c4d ,cob, dxf and shd […]
