What Time is it Mr Wolf?

I did warn you I was going to make up for yesterdays lack of post today. So, dear reader, here is a third instalment…

Part of my day job is to go through client’s requirements for the web sites they want created and work out how we can do them. The features they want vary from the basic to the obscure. One that crops up over and over again is having a clock on their page. Not a hard task to achieve but one where I wonder what their visitors gain given that they probably have a clock at the bottom of their screen and possibly on their wrist and maybe on the wall and on their VCR, microwave oven, bed side alarm clock, PDA, mobile phone and local town hall. So I’m doing a new web site and I decided I may as well follow their example and have a clock. I just decided to make it a little more interesting.

It isn’t big or clever. It just takes the time and turns it into words and depending on variable set when it gets called it may be more or less helpful. If it’s having a bad day it may round to the nearest four-hour block. If it’s feeling pedantic it may round to the nearest minute. Plus it can take time zones into account so I could in theory display the time in different places with a simple modification.

Tomorrow I’m going to either play with the clock some more or get serious a take a long hard look at Magpie RSS. Or it being Friday I may just watch a DVD and veg instead. Oh the thrilling life of a software engineer.

Thats a pretty cool set of clocks.

Mines going to be a little less accurate or wizzy but hopefully fun in a different way...
