California: Designing Freedom at the Deign Museum

Sunday, July 23rd, 2017

The California: Designing Freedom exhibition at the Design Museum looks at design in California since the 1950s.  It places counterculture at the heart of the story and looks at its impact on design from skateboards, the pocket calculator, transport, pong, Google, the Gay Pride flag, Apple, Blade Runner, Easy Rider, LSD tabs, and graphic design for the Olympics in 1984.

It’s a solid and well assembled exhibition that thoroughly covers its subject raised to a higher level through the inclusion of some exhibits with real historical importance

California a solid exploration of the US states impact on design since the 1950s with some genuinely interesting (and unique) artefacts on show
