HMS Liverpool
Thursday, March 3rd, 2011Dark Dwarf posted quite a few pictures of HMS Liverpool on her last visit to the city on his blog: The Leaving of HMS Liverpool HMS Liverpool I just thought I’d post one of the ones I took last Sunday morning too.
Paul Review
Thursday, March 3rd, 2011Just back from seeing Paul in a packed cinema. I am really relieved to say this is an excellent road movie. I say relieved because I was worried about Paul – the trailer with Odeon club card combo advert had really turned me off the film. Then there was the travesty of a film that […]
Removing a Category from WordPress 3.1 RSS Feed
Sunday, February 27th, 2011I filter a category out of my WordPress RSS feed because it’s all my tweets from the week. I want an archive (mostly for myself) but I don’t want to blast anyone following my RSS feed with them every week. I’d been using code like this in functions.php in my theme to screen them… [codesyntax […]
North John Street Ventilation Station Horse Head
Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011On the opposite side of North John Street from the Royal Insurance Building is one of the ventilation shafts for the Mersey Road Tunnel. It’s not as grand an affair as the Georges Dock Ventilation Tower and Central Station with its statues and other decoration but it does merit Grade II listing. It’s quite a […]
CityEngine Vue Review
Sunday, February 20th, 2011I reviewed CityEngine Indie last week, here is my review of CityEngine Vue. If you read last weeks review I’ll not apologise for lifting large parts of it with only minor changes as there are only minor differences between the two products. CityEngine Vue is exactly the same underlying software as all the other versions […]
Lennon European Peace Monument
Wednesday, February 16th, 2011I don’t usually photograph the Beatles attractions around the city but the Lennon European Peace Monument was catching the sun as I was looking for a vantage point in Chavasse Park to photograph the Royal Insurance Building’s golden dome from last week.
CityEngine Indie Review
Sunday, February 13th, 2011When I first saw renders of models produced with Procedural’s CityEngine I was really impressed. However with prices in the Company or Freelance Professional range I thought that, like other high-end CG software, I’d have to look longingly on knowing that only Pros and pirates would ever get to play with it. CityEngine Indie is […]
Royal Insurance Building Dome Liverpool
Tuesday, February 8th, 2011The golden dome on the Royal Insurance Building in Dale Street stands out on Liverpool’s skyline. 34m (110ft) above Street level is the highest point on the Grade II* listed building started in 1897 and finished in 1903. Sadly J Francis Doyle’s Edwardian Baroque building has been derelict for most of my time in Liverpool.
The Mechanic Movie Review
Tuesday, February 1st, 2011The latest Jason Statham action movie, The Mechanic, is a solid action flick that suffers from one major Fridge Pipe moment. On my entirely personal measurement system, The Statham Scale (where Crank is 1 and The Bank Job is a 10) I’d say The Mechanic was a 7 (so just below The Transporter). Personally I […]
