To the north of Pifl on the way up into the hills is a cluster of villages broadly known as Sommervin but which can be divided into three distinct groups. Former mining villages include Sallis-Clegg, Foggy Wilde and Compowen are properly the Sommervin villages. The lost and largely forgotten village of Blamyire can be found at the edge of the moor proper. Fowlds-Blaketon and Rowan-Berry are the principal villages of Hjerteslag which connects Sommervin to Kubunn. Kubunn is the most inland of the group of villages and is mostly agricultural. It includes the villages of Herriot and Farnon.
