Fl and Chips at Number 1 Harbour Road is an unassuming, two storey building that stands on its own just before the West Pier. It takes its name from the River Fl which flows through the harbour on its way to the North Sea. It used to be the best Fish and Chip shop in Pifl and most tourists still think it is but locals know that Elvi’s in Nordan have been serving the best fish and chips since they opened in 1977.
Despite the competition business is still good. Their location gives them an advantage both for take away and for the restaurant. Both are busy through the season. In the off season the 1st floor room of the restaurant is closed except when its hired for functions.
They are proud that whenever possible the fish served is landed in the harbour and bought straight from local boats the same day its served.
Apart from Elvi the Fl and Chips greatest enemy is a seagull known to the staff as that Evil Bird. Evil Bird terrorizes staff but seems to have little interest in most of customers. Amongst the local seagull population Evil Bird is known as Bjørn Bloodaxe.
