Face Shop Pro – First Impressions

I picked up Face Shop Pro from the Daz web site earlier. So far my impressions of it are so so. When I tried it on the M3 head model they include with it the resulting mesh looks pretty good but Poser didn’t like it as a morph target which makes it pretty useless. So I follow the instructions and export M3’s head from Poser. Now I’m getting a geometry thats all screwed up with sharp edges and sticky out bits. To be fair I’ve only spent a little over an hour trying to used it but there are a number of aspects of it that are screaming out for improvement. The tool set seems short of a few tools I’d expect for a package that at full price is $80. Now I may have missed them but little things like being able to add extra points to a curve and not having to clear all the curves you’ve drawn if only one of them is wrong seem like pretty basic functionality. The instructions could be clearer and would benefit from providing more detail of the steps to be taken. I know how to apply a 3d object as a morph in Poser but many new users would benefit from a slightly more detailed explanation. Before I pass final verdict I’ll give it a bit more time and try a couple more faces.

Edit: To see my final verdict see my post Face Shop Pro – Just Not Ready for the Big Time

There are quite a few negatives there but I've only spent a little time with it. Sometimes software takes a little time to learn.

I try not to jump to conclusions till I've had a chance to get to grips with it. I've already discovered a couple of features I thought were missing (like modifying a curve and adding extra points) are available. Once I've had chance to really give it some time I'll post again.

At least since it's Daz if I don't like it I've got 30 days to try it and if I can't get it to work to my satisfaction I can get my money back.

All those negatives would seem to add up to a lot worse than "so-so."
If it doesn't cleanly work with Poser, what good is it?
