Thirteen Things Mark Caldwell is listening to/watching/reading in the last week.

  1. You’ve Got To Laugh – Nik Kershaw. Arrived this week from Short House Records and in my CD player a lot since then. Includes a warning that it may include traces of irony. Traces? Some might say that alone is ironic. The tunes could be mistaken for pop. The lyrics are a little more complex than that.
  2. The West Wing (Season 1). If there is one show I find my way back to over and over it’s the West Wing.
  3. Bat Out of Hell 2 – Meat Loaf. Because Objects in the rear view mirror may appear closer than they are.
  4. The Very Best of Incantation. I’m not a big listener to pan pipe music but Incantation are far too good to pigeonhole and ignore.
  5. Mr Benn. It was research for something I was writing, honest.
  6. The Way It Is – Bruce Hornsby and the Range. Have you noticed I like my lyrics complicated yet?
  7. Set Me Free – Marion Raven. Nik’s knocked Marion out of my CD player but she’ll be back soon I’m sure.
  8. Battle Star Galactica (Season 2). The only reason I’m not on The West Wing’s second season. Really enjoying this despite still thinking they should have kept the original shows theme.
  9. A Cock and Bull Story. Not sure what to make of this. It was either brilliant or utter rubbish. I think I’ll lean towards the first of the two.
  10. Local Hero Music by Mark Knopfler.
  11. The Deceivers: Allied Military Deception in the Second World War – Thaddeus Holt. A heavy weight and slightly very dull history book but between the bickering over who commanded what when it does actually include some interesting history.
  12. Sharpe’s Escape by Bernard Cornwell. I’ve barely started this yet because The Deceivers is taking a lot longer to read than I expected.
  13. Carrotblanca – Bugs Bunny and Friends do Casablanca. Somehow it works. Don’t ask me how. It would be quicker to just watch it for yourself and see.

So what are you listening to / reading / watching at the moment?

I'm in for Carrotblanca. I may have to see Casablanca first to appreciate the rabbit's point of view. Thanks for visiting my TT.

Do you know, one of the very first ever MP3's I hunted down was Wouldn't It Be Good. Now I have that song stuck in my noggin :P

Bat out of hell! Wow, that takes me back! Meat Loaf will always be Eddie (from Rocky Horror) to me, though.

Thanks for stopping by!

(I'm listening to Sir James Galway play Mozart.)

Aline de Chevigny Thursday, July 26th, 2007

LOL gotta love Bugs.

Watching: American Inventor, Criminal Minds, CSI, Cold Case

Listening: Leonard Cohen, Bruce Springsteen, Sting and now that I've been reminded of Meat Loaf, I'll have to add him too. LOVED him back in the day!

Reading: Elie Wiesel, Night

Great TT!

Erin Gordon Thursday, July 26th, 2007

I miss the West Wing, sigh

Jinger Thursday, July 26th, 2007

Great list. I LOVE Bugs and the Gang.

I watch reruns of Reba and Still Standing. As far as current programs: CSI, CSI New York, Law and Order CI, Ghost Whisperer, Close to Home and my ABSOLUTE favorite, Numb3rs.

Music wise I'm into imports, Nightwish, Sonata Arctica, and music along those lines. I can also get into ald time country music, Hank Williams Sr. and his generation. I adore musicals, and I love listening to Classical music, Vivaldi The Four Seasons is my favorite.

Meatloaf! Bat out of Hell was a great album Who didn't sing along with Paradise by the Dashboard Light. Or how about 2 out of 3 aint bad? Bat out of HEll 2 is just as great. I really love Good Girls Go to Heaen and of course I'd do Anything for Love.

To date myself: When I was a teenager my mom walked in while I was getting my cassettes set up and she saw my Meatloaf Bat out of Hell tape and my Bread tape. SHe asked if there was a Pepsi or Coke band then I could have a meal. Didn't laugh then, still not today.

Have a great day!

Alasandra Thursday, July 26th, 2007

I enjoy Bernard Cornwell. I like the Starbucks series.

JAM Thursday, July 26th, 2007

Cool stuff.

Wouldn't it be Nice by Nik Kershaw is one of my all-time favorite songs as well as the first really cool video I saw. 80s videos are a hoot because they're so low tech and cheesy, but that video is still cool.

Local Hero is my all-time favorite movie. Period. Mr. Knopfler's soundtrack is gorgeous.

I love the new Battlestar G. It's dark and really rough around the edges, with some mysticism thrown in.

Dorothy Thursday, July 26th, 2007

CarrotBlanca...I recgonize that.

MissMeliss Thursday, July 26th, 2007

I'm with you on The West Wing (I'm missing season seven - and will hopefully get it for my birthday.)

I can never decide if I like the current incarnation of Battlestar Galactica or not. It's so unrelentlessly grim.

GarthTrekker Thursday, July 26th, 2007

That is a cool cool list! Lyn from Bloggin' Outloud :-) Thanks for stopping by.

Angela/SciFiChick Thursday, July 26th, 2007

I'm currently working my way through The Highlander season 1 on dvd.

Daisy Thursday, July 26th, 2007

I been watching all the old Godzilla movies! I am going to figure out a way to defeat that giant lizard.

Christine d'Abo Thursday, July 26th, 2007

Carrotblanca sounds hilarious! Season two of BSG was amazing. Wait till you see the end of season three! Awesome.

Fence Thursday, July 26th, 2007

I really should try and watch the West Wing, I've heard so many positive comments about it.

I'm a big fan of BSG; it does have some serious flaws but is still a lot better than most tv programmes

Robin Thursday, July 26th, 2007

Bat Outta Hell 1 and 2 always top my playlist. Love those albums. I really enjoy Bruce Hornsby too, Mandolin Rain always reminds me of a long ago ex and makes me cry (though surprisingly not over the ex, he was worth losing).

I agree about The West Wing too. I also got into Rome for a while, and am stuck mid-season on 24 - our flippin' download program isn't working and they aren't shown here anymore!

Shannon Thursday, July 26th, 2007

I've never heard of Carrotblaca! I'll have to check it out! :)
The only thing that I am listening to right now is the hum of my window fan and whatever traffic is coming down my street. :)

katherine. Thursday, July 26th, 2007

due to a personal issue with Martin Sheen (the real guy not bartlett)...I came late to West Wing. HOWEVER....I have watched the entire seven seasons twice now.

LOST is another one I never watched on TV but love on DVD

Comedy + Thursday, July 26th, 2007

Lori Thursday, July 26th, 2007

Well, I haven heard of any of them...lol...I guess I dont do enough of the above. Happy TT. You still havent told me how you change the date....

damozel Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

Man, I remember "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" and "You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth" back from when the album first came out.

My husband's a big Cornwell fan; I love the films (Sean Bean!!!!) but I've never managed to really get into the books. He buys them all, though.

Milan - zzz Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

CARROTBLANCA?!? Oh, now I simply must find that. I do love that Rabbit! And I agree with you -- the first season of The West Wing was terrific. President Bartlett was less of an actual character and more of a presence that everyone discussed and planned for and huddled about. That way, when he did appear, even for a few minutes each episode, I think he had a greater impact.
